Discipling for Development

A Minitry of the Navigators

Stories - God Using What Appears “Unusable”

It has been a very productive year for our Discipling for Development team. Since January 2011 we have produced seven training DVDs for our Discipling for Development partners in Africa. As part of this process our team used video footage from Nigeria and Uganda and combined it with footage taken in Colorado Springs, USA.

One of my favorite video clips is from the DVD called “The Problem Solving Process.” The video clip was a facilitation piece taken live on the streets of Abuja, Nigeria. On the day the footage was taken, it didn’t seem to be anything extraordinary. In fact, after the video shoot, I returned to our guesthouse feeling discouraged. The traffic in the background was so loud it seemed like the footage would be totally unusable. However, when we began editing in Colorado Springs, we saw potential in this seemingly “unusable” raw footage. When the “pruning” process was done we had a great clip!

Isn’t that a great analogy for ministry? Sometimes we see ourselves and others as “unusable.” However, God looks beyond the outside appearance – the raw footage – and sees great potential! He takes our brokenness and “prunes” us to be men and women who are able to minister to others.

It’s great to be part of a ministry that sees potential in people and helps them be all that God intended them to be.
